Processing method

Electrolytic polishing (or electro polishing), just as its name suggests, is a mode of polishing to fulfill metal surface treatment by electrical decomposition generated between the product (anode) and the electrode (cathode) on its opposite. As a result, the constituent elements of the device and the principle of the processing method is very simple. As shown in the figure, the electrolytic bath is filled with electrolyte (electrolytic polishing liquid), the polishing object is used as the anode, something not easy to be dissolved is set as the cathode and finally the DC current is applied.
Of course, in the actual operation, for the composition of polishing liquid and the temperature management and the configuration of the target object and the cathode,there are still a lot of necessary technical knowledge required.

 

Principle
In electrolytic polishing, as it is not easily dissolved, when it is soaked in a pure liquid, it is required to be gradually dissolved mandatorily through the current as an essential condition, for formation of which there are usually two situations listed below that must be taken into consideration.



①An acidized film layer generated on the anode surface.
②A high-viscosity mucus layer containing high concentrations of metals.

In electrolysis, large amounts of metal ions dissolved from the anode is wrapped by a high viscosity liquid layer very close to the anode surface. As the metal ions in the viscous layer tends to saturation, thus leading to the new metal difficult to be dissolved, and as the viscosity is high, thus hindering the flow of the alternating current. To maintain a high potential, a thin layer of acidification matter is formed on the anode surface. Under this condition, the current is focused on the convex part of the anode surface, thus causing the convex part being dissolved only, which is shown in the figure below.
